Will Pop Radio Ban Britney Spears' "If U Seek Amy"?
Thursday January 15, 2009
So what does a pop radio station do when a major single release doesn't include actual profanity but implies it in a way that avoids any subtlety? Say the title to Britney Spears' "If You Seek Amy" out loud at a brisk pace and you are likely to hear the language causing stations concern. There is no question in listening to the song and reading its lyrics that the point of the song is to spell out a profane term.
One bright light for pop stations is that Britney Spears' record label Jive has not yet officially announced that "If You Seek Amy" will be her next single. However, her official web site has said otherwise. Would a radio ban harm single sales and chart placement? The weeks to come may provide an answer to that question.
