OKC Weekend Highlights: 1/16-1/18

Friday January 16, 2009
A metro favorite, the 39th International Finals Rodeo takes place this weekend at State Fair Arena. Get ticket information and more here on About.com. Also, Saturday is also OG&E Kids Day, beginning at 11 a.m. All activities are free, and the kids can participate in a barrel race, meet the Miss Rodeo USA contestants, learn to rope and make saddles, get riding lessons and so much more.

Elsewhere at State Fair Park, the Oklahoma City Home and Garden Show runs from Friday through Sunday. Over 400 exhibitors will be on hand as will HGTV's Shane Tallant and Don Engebretson, Field Editor of Better Homes and Gardens.

It's a big weekend for the Thunder at the Ford Center with home games both Friday and Sunday nights. If you haven't been watching of late, this team is getting quite a bit better. They've won 2 of their last 3 and should have some exciting games with the Pistons and Heat this weekend.

The Tornado Alley Rollergirls are "Busting Out Against Breast Cancer" as their season opens Saturday at the Farmers Public Market on Klein. Proceeds from a halftime auction will benefit SHOUT, an organization supporting young women cancer survivors. Get more information on the team's MySpace page.

Finally in music, head to the Blue Door for their 16th Anniversary Party with Kevin Welch and John Fulbright performing. Get venue and ticket information here on About.com OKC.

New Clubs Coming to Bricktown

Thursday January 15, 2009
Retail may not be where many would like it, but the club scene in Bricktown is well on its way. NewsOK's Steve Lackmeyer is reporting that, while later than initially planned, Michael Murphy’s Dueling Pianos is set to open on Valentine's Day.

Also, perhaps you remember the movie "Coyote Ugly" about the nightclub where the lady bartenders dance on top of the bar... Well, the concept has spread into a national chain, and Oklahoma City will be joining the mix in March when a Coyote Ugly Saloon opens in the Miller-Jackson Building.

Sam Bradford Day

Tuesday January 13, 2009
At the city council chambers this morning, Mayor Mick Cornett declared January 13th "Sam Bradford Day" in Oklahoma City, honoring the University of Oklahoma quarterback's Heisman Trophy win last month. Though OU has had 4 other Heisman winners, Bradford, who attended Putnam City North, is the first from Oklahoma City to capture the prestigious award.

Sooner fans across the metro are awaiting Bradford's decision on whether to return to OU or declare for the upcoming NFL draft. Many projections have the 3rd year sophomore being chosen in the top 10, if he opts to leave, but following another heartbreaking BCS defeat, OU loyalists hope he'll come back for another chance at the National Championship.

Is there a better day to make those fans happy than "Sam Bradford Day"...?

Update: The University of Oklahoma will hold a press conference today (1/14) at 4:30pm. It is being reported that Bradford will announce he's returning.

Where in the Metro?

Monday January 12, 2009

Jesse knew the photo from last week was taken at the fairgrounds. In fact, I think Jesse has been the first to guess correctly a few times for "Where in the Metro?". Who can identify this shot?

Do you have an original photo you think would make an interesting "Where in the Metro?" shot? Just send it my way for consideration.
