Prospective Student-Athlete Information - Track and Field

Track and Field Questionnaire

We are excited about your interest in the University of North Texas and Mean Green men's and women's track teams.

Cross-country and track brought home the most hardware for the Mean Green in 2012-13. Women's track won the indoor runner-up trophy and held on to the outdoor championship title for the second straight year, while the men's cross-country took second-place honors in the fall. Head coach Carl Sheffield won conference coach of the year honors for the third time in the last two years with the track program.

Steven White finished his career with a third-place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles in a school record 49.32 at the NCAA Championships. White's third-place finish is the best for North Texas by an individual or relay team since Bill Schmidt finished second in the men's javelin at the championships in 1970.

White was named to the USTFCCCA All-America First Team after being named to the second team the previous year.

Quick Hits On North Texas
North Texas entered its first year as a member of Conference USA and showed that the Mean Green belonged to be there with two second-place team finishes and a bowl invitation. Individually, 50 Mean Green student-athletes were named all-conference during the 2013-14 school year, four Mean Green athletes received specialty conference awards, and a track athlete was named an All-American.

The Track and Field Coaching Staff
Please note that, per NCAA rules, coaches can only respond via e-mail to juniors (after September 1) and seniors in high school. Coaches must mail responses to freshmen and sophomores, per NCAA rules. You can call any North Texas coach, but they cannot return your phone call unless you are a senior in high school.

Facilities
Fouts Field became the home of the University of North Texas football and track teams in 1951. Originally built to seat 20,000 fans, the structure was expanded by adding 10,000 seats in the end zones prior to the 1994 season. The track was surfaced in 2005, and both teams moved into new facilities during the 2005-06 school year. These facilities include locker rooms and coaching offices.

Academic Athletic Services
In the Fall of 2005, the academic and compliance staff relocated to the Mean Green Village. Located on Bonnie Brae, the new Student-Athlete Development Center is three times the size of the former academic center. The Center serves as the cornerstone of the Mean Green Village and is only a short walk from the surrounding sports facilities.
