UNT offers 14 residence halls (with a 15th opening in Fall 2015), each with its own study groups, advisors, social life and personality. Dorm life allows you to hang out with other students, eat at five different dining halls and roll out of bed 10 minutes before class if you like. You can opt for a living-learning community with a focus on global connections, jazz, engineering, arts and design, business, journalism, sustainability, health professions or other areas. Freshmen who live on campus make friends easier and have higher GPAs than freshmen who live off campus.

For many, intercollegiate athletics is essential to the university experience. NCAA Division I football and 15 other men's and women's sports provide excitement and build affinity. The Mean Green competes in Conference USA with Rice, Louisiana Tech and UT-San Antonio. UNT’s new Apogee Stadium provides the ultimate game day experience. Last year’s winning season culminated with the football team taking home the Heart of Dallas Bowl championship trophy.
About 1,000 concerts a year are presented by UNT’s world-renowned College of Music. You can enjoy music of all kinds, but we’re famous for jazz — the One O’Clock Lab Band has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. Art exhibits, theatre and dance performances, films and other activities also abound. If you’re an active person, you can join an intramural sports team, pump iron at the rec center and challenge yourself with adventure trips (and rent equipment) at our Outdoor Pursuits Center.
You can blow off steam, reduce stress and improve your fitness at our student recreation center that’s the size of two football fields. It features an enormous weight and cardio room, indoor track, eight-lane lap pool, leisure pool and four multi-purpose courts. It’s like a health club with automatic membership for UNT students.
Many students worry about being on their own at college. Our staff and faculty members care about you and will assist you if you need it. Professional academic advisors will help you choose your major and each semester’s courses. You can monitor your progress 24/7 with our online degree audit system, even plugging in different degree plans to see how your courses could apply to other majors.
Freshman Orientation is your first step toward transitioning to UNT. At orientation you will receive academic advising, register for classes and interact with current students. Several other first year programs are available throughout the academic year to aid in your adjustment.
