College of Law Students Create Annual Charity Event

Blue Box Campaign
UNT College of Law - Blue Box Camaign 2014

The Inaugural Class at UNT Dallas College of Law has launched an annual charity event to collect rolling suitcases and winter coats for adults and children in need.

Donations to the Blue Box Campaign will benefit clients at three Dallas non-profit organizations: Austin Street Center, CitySquare and New Beginning Center. View the PDF flyer.

Donation containers will be available at Richland College and Southwest Mall through November 23. Businesses, churches, law firms and groups will collect donations at locations of their choice through December 13. Donated items will be presented to the non-profit organizations by December 18.

The Blue Box Campaign is a student-run project created by eight students in the part-time evening division at the law school. These eight students, like all of the 153 members of the first-year class, are participating in volunteer activities during the fall 2014 term. In fact, the class will collectively contribute more than 2,300 hours of service to the community just during their first semester in law school.

The three non-profit organizations that will receive the donations are:

Austin Street Shelter: provides emergency shelter and services to homeless men and women in Dallas. They offer safe clean shelter and an evening meal for over 300 men and women each night and also provides substance abuse treatment, medical and psychiatric care, adult rehabilitation, and a transitional living facility for clients who qualify.

CitySquare: the mission is to fight the causes and effects of poverty through service, advocacy, and friendship. Programs encompass the areas of hunger, health, housing and hope (addressing legal, educational, employment and community empowerment as well as advocating for policy change).

New Beginning Center: provides education, prevention and intervention programs and services to those affected by domestic violence. Among other programs and services, New Beginning Center partners with Legal Aid of Northwest Texas and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office (DCDA) to provide legal advocacy services and access to protective orders through DCDA.
