***** Childress District Travel Update *****
Roadways in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Childress District’s 13 counties have spotty patches of black ice and snow pack this morning. Travel conditions remain hazardous, please continue to use caution.
TxDOT crews have worked throughout the night to monitor, treat and blade the roadways, and will continue to work until all roads ...are clear.
The safety of the traveling public is TxDOT’s priority. Motorists should avoid traveling in winter conditions. If you must travel, you should observe these winter safety tips.
•Reduce speed. Speed limits are based on normal road and weather conditions, not winter road conditions
• Maintain at least three times the normal following distance on snow or ice
• Watch carefully for snow removal equipment and stay at least 200 feet back if you are behind a snow plow
• Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first
• If you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes. Steer into the direction of the skid until you feel you have regained traction then straighten your vehicle.
The Childress District serves the counties of Wheeler, Donley, Collingsworth, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Hardeman, Motley, Cottle, Foard, Dickens, King and Knox. See More
