TxDOT is currently in the public involvement process to identify potential improvements on U.S. 377 at SH 171. On May 8, 2010, Hood County voters approved county transportation bonds for improvements to U.S. 377 in Cresson. In September 2011, the Texas Transportation Commission approved another $11 million in Proposition 12 funds for this project.

Under a proposed pass-through financing agreement, TxDOT would reimburse Hood County a portion of the construction cost over time based on the number of vehicles that drive on the new highway.
