We're Redesigning Our Safer Product Label

Share Your Thoughts

Finding cleaning and other products that are safer for you, your family, and the environment should be easy — that's why we are redesigning our safer product label. EPA has a voluntary program that reviews products and allows them to display our DfE label if they meet EPA's stringent health and environmental criteria.

Share your thoughts on whether the potential new labels below get the message across that labeled products are safer for people's health and the environment and will help you recognize safer products on store shelves. Consider: What is most appealing to you? What best conveys the concept of safer products for your family's health? What are your thoughts on the words, graphics, colors and shapes? EPA will include your feedback on these options as we design the new safer product label.

Why we are redesigning our Safer Product Label

When you see the current DfE Label on a product it means that EPA scientists have evaluated every ingredient in the product to ensure it meets stringent human health and environmental criteria. Learn more about the DfE Safer Product Label.

We would like the new label to accomplish several goals:

  • Better convey the scientific rigor of EPA's product evaluation and the benefits to people and the environment with a label that is easier to display on products, materials, and in digital media
  • Increase buyers' recognition of products bearing EPA's Safer Product Label
  • Encourage innovation and development of safer chemicals and chemical-based products
