Sen. Elizabeth Warren will serve as a Senate liaison to groups in her party's liberal base, taking on a newly created leadership role in the Democratic caucus.
Warren, a prolific fundraiser and campaigner who is popular with progressives for her tough stances against Wall Street, will likely focus on policy ideas in the role. Her new title is "Strategic Policy Adviser to the DPCC" (Democratic Policy and Communications Center.)
Democrats met behind closed doors Thursday to elect their new leaders.
Warren, who is from Massachusetts, is often discussed as a possible viable primary challenger to Hillary Clinton, although she has repeatedly stated that she is not running for president.
