In today's roundup: Les Wexner's Ferrari is caught in a legal tangle, Max & Erma's owner in line to get an NHL expansion team, executive search firm Woodmanese Group mergers with Nashville firm, Columbus gets perfect score on LGBT index, and Ohio missing economic windfall with gay marriage ban.
Les Wexner loves Ferraris. The billionaire founder of L Brands Inc. has several of them, but perhaps none is as famous as the 1954 Ferrari 375-Plus he bought at auction over the summer for a whopping $18.3 million, the highest ever paid for a Ferrari. The car has a storied racing history, but unfortunately a tangled ownership one as well. Though the auction was supposed to settle the matter, it appears that was wishful thinking. So now Wexner is suing England's Bonhams auction house, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reports, demanding a full refund. His legal team told the paper that "despite (Bonhams') knowledge of the ongoing litigation in relation to the ownership of the car, false representations to the contrary were made to the buyer prior to sale, either fraudulently or recklessly." The auction house said the lawsuit "is wholly without merit and will be strongly contested."
Max & Erma's could be getting into hockey, in a roundabout way. The New York Post reports the NHL has chosen a team of businessman William Foley and the Maloof family as owners of a Las Vegas expansion team. Foley owns Fidelity National Financial Inc. (NYSE: FNF), which owns Blue Ribbon Holdings LLC, which owns Max & Erma's. The paper said the fee will be about $400 million, or about five times what it cost the Columbus Blue Jackets to enter the league in 2000.
