At 3:30 AM on June 13, a motorist was stranded in high water flowing over the bridge deck of FM 278 in Hansford County & emergency workers who were on the scene couldn’t reach him. Maintenance Crew Chief Taylor Genn from the Amarillo District, who was manning a road block on State Highway 136, was the only TxDOT worker close enough to respond to the emergency. Genn went to the scene & cautiously moved his front-end loader through the rushing waters to the frightened driver ahead who was trapped inside his truck. When the motorist climbed out of the passenger side window & into the loader bucket, Genn backed the loader out & off the flooding bridge, safely depositing the driver on dry ground. Congrats to Taylor Genn for truly going the "Extra Mile!!"
