Legislative Accomplishments:
- Passed a "Texas tough" version of Jessica's Law imposing tough, new penalties for child predators, including the death penalty option for repeat offenders
- Passed legislation requiring criminal background checks for all public school employees in Texas to keep children safe at school
- Passed legislation increasing the penalty for Internet solicitation of a minor under age 14 from a misdemeanor to a felony
Priorities for the Future:
- Create a tamper-proof driver's license or photo ID that complies with the federal "Real ID Act"
- Continue to provide state resources and personnel to protect the border and reduce illegal human and drug trafficking
- Develop new laws and support efforts to reduce illegal drug use, including drugs targeting children and teenagers
