iPhone 6 Plus review
Apple released two brand new smartphones this year, including the company's first ever phablet - but does Apple's supersized iPhone beat market leaders like Samsung?
Spying on smartphones is a hot topic nowadays, following the recent celebrity nudes leaks, but also Apple’s and Google’s independent commitments to better protecting personal data on mobile devices. However, there’s one kind of spying that some smartphone users might actually be interested in, and that’s keeping tabs on their children who are already using smartphones, especially younger kids who have been given a smartphone of their own. To test one such app, BuzzFeed’s Katie Notopoulos monitored a 21-year old student for two weeks and learned a ton of details about her target in the process. More →
As PC users anxiously await the release of Windows 9, many are beginning to worry about the latest impending deadline for Windows 7. Ali vs. Frazier. Stones vs. Beatles. Brady vs. Manning. Is there anything better than competition between two rivals at the top of their games? Google chairman Eric Schmidt doesn’t seem to think so, which is why he tells Bloomberg TV’s Erik Schatzker and Stephanie Ruhle that the “brutal” competition we’re seeing right now is absolutely great for smartphone owners.
Apple CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday morning sent a memo to all Apple employees, 9to5Mac reports, praising their work that lead to the huge iPhone 6 launch that made September “one for the record books.” The exec also revealed that all Apple employees will receive more days off during Thanksgiving than they normally get in most years. In a remarkably brief report, Reuters noted some comments made by Samsung Electronics President D.J. Lee during a press conference on Wednesday morning in South Korea. According to the report, the Samsung executive is confident that Samsung’s mobile business will recover quickly thanks to the company’s “strong fundamentals and technological prowess.” Samsung’s profit plummeted to a two-year low in the second quarter as mobile phone sales continued to slow. The Galaxy Note 4 phablet is indeed coming earlier than expected, following the surprising (for Samsung) iPhone 6 sales success, but the company has only officially pushed up the device’s launch in its home country, according to a new post on its blog. More →
When reports of the iPhone 6 Plus warping under pressure began to spread earlier this week, many users became concerned about the durability of their brand new devices. Once Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy released a video of himself bending the iPhone 6 Plus with his bare hands, #BendGate (or as we prefer to called it, “Bent-gazi”) started trending all over social media. Despite the seemingly endless string of releases over the past year, Samsung hasn’t had a great deal of success in the wearable industry. There’s no question that each subsequent release has improved upon its predecessor, but from the original Galaxy Gear to the Android Wear-powered Gear Live, the company hasn’t made enough significant progress to cement its place in a growing market. For the last month, Apple has been on top of the world. The Cupertino-based company recently sold 10 million smartphones in a single weekend, unveiled a new product that has the potential to dominate the wearable market, and already has fans excited about an October event that hasn’t even been announced. But the reason that Apple is dominating the headlines this afternoon isn’t because of its success; instead Apple is trending online because of a ridiculously botched update to iOS 8. More →

For the past couple of months, every time a new recorded phone call surfaced showing Comcast delivering poor customer service, the company’s response has been pretty much the same: We apologize to the customer for this poor experience and this is not representative of our customer service as a whole. However, once you get enough examples of this kind of service, it’s clear that this is actually representative of what Comcast customers often experience when they try to get their problems solved. And it just so happens that a reader has sent us a recording of yet another bad Comcast customer service experience, which we have uploaded onto SoundCloud for your listening displeasure.
Apple has an unexpected iPhone 6 situation on its hands, as it appears various iPhone 6 Plus users have managed to bend the device while holding it in their pants pockets. YouTube channel Unbox Therapy did a manual iPhone 6 Plus bend test, managing to significantly bend the device in the process, and the video quickly went viral. Soon after that, Unbox Therapy returned with a similar test for the similarly sized iPhone 6 Plus rival from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 3. More →
