- Leader Reid misspoke and he has clarified his statement. Sen. Reid has been a strong advocate for the Gulf Coast’s recovery after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I am confident that he will continue to provide extraordinary leadership and support to the people of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast moving forward, as well as champion the needs of the people of the East Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

I passed along the same advice for boys and girls that my parents gave to me: Never quit, be determined and be focused. Live with a grateful heart.- Photo of the Week: Sen. Happy New Year! 2012 was great, and I'm looking forward to doing even more for Louisiana in 2013.- The compromise the Senate reached shows that we can work together to protect the middle class by extending tax cuts for 98 percent of Louisianians. I urge the House to act quickly on this commonsense proposal.
While this compromise did not do as much as I had hoped to reduce the deficit, I remain committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to find a balanced approach to deficit reduction that includes both spending cuts and new revenues. - Merry Christmas!
- One of my favorite Christmas traditions in Louisiana is _______________.
- I surprised my wonderful friend, Senator Snowe, with an early Christmas gift today. I am sad to see her time in the Senate come to an end, but very thankful for her friendship over the years.

We've got a long way to go, but I'm looking forward to doing even more for our state in 2013.- From coastal restoration and small business to supporting our veterans and military families, 2012 was full of victories for Louisiana. - Sen. Danny Inouye was always quiet but strong. The people of Hawaii and America lost a great champion and an extraordinary leader. Louisiana is grateful for his unwavering support in our recovery from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and for his support to build the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
Goodbye, my friend. - As a mom, I am deeply heartbroken by the senseless shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. The children, teachers and families are in my prayers.

I joined a record-breaking number of women senators yesterday for an ABC World News interview with Diane Sawyer. We talked about what it means that one-fifth of the next Congress’ U.S. Senators will be women. The full interview will air on January 3, but you can watch the preview below.Mary Landrieu shared a link.
In today’s Advocate, I urged Gov. Jindal to reconsider his opposition to establishing a state-run health insurance exchange in Louisiana. If he does not act by Friday, he will cede control over Louisiana’s health exchange to the federal government, which could result in one-size-fits-all reforms not tailored to the state’s specific needs.- ActivityJanuaryPeople Who Like This63
