Joe Panik’s Amazing Double Play Turns Game 7 In Giants’ Favor (Video)

Joe Panik swung momentum in the San Francisco Giants’ favor.

The Giants defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-2 in Game 7 on Wednesday to win their third World Series title in five seasons. Panik helped San Francisco’s cause by starting a sick double play in the third inning.

Eric Hosmer hit a ground ball up the middle with no outs and a runner on first base. Panik dived to his right and delivered a backhanded flip out of his glove to shortstop Brandon Crawford, who successfully turned the double play.

Hosmer, who dived head-first into first, initially was called safe. Replays showed Crawford’s throw beat Hosmer, though, and the ruling was overturned.

The Giants broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning when Michael Morse single home a run.
