CASPER, Wyo. — A woman suspected of soliciting the murder of her ex-husband requested a second competency evaluation Tuesday in Natrona County Circuit Court.

Cynthia Guy-Thomas, who was a therapist at Central Wyoming Counseling Center until May, allegedly asked one of her patients, whom she believed to have gang affiliations, to arrange for the murder of her ex-husband.

However, the patient informed police of the request, and Guy-Thomas was charged May 22 with solicitation of first-degree murder.

Defense counsel requested in May that a competency evaluation for Guy-Thomas be completed before her preliminary hearing, said Natrona County District Attorney Mike Blonigen. The evaluation was conducted at the Wyoming State Hospital in Evanston.

Guy-Thomas was scheduled to have her preliminary hearing Tuesday in Natrona County Circuit Court, but requested a second evaluation of her competency to stand trial. An independent evaluator will conduct the new examination, Blonigen said.

The district attorney did not say what prompted the second evaluation.

A week-long investigation preceded Guy-Thomas' May arrest. Casper police, led by Detective Sara Nelson, arranged for the patient to have a recorded conversation, during which the informant gave Guy-Thomas a phone number for a Division of Criminal Investigation agent posing as a hit man named "Frankie."

The informant said "Frankie" was his cousin, and would kill the therapist's ex-husband as a favor to him.

Guy-Thomas agreed to pay $4,000 for the hit. She then set up a time to meet the supposed assassin in Glendo, and she gave the undercover agent instructions on how to get into her ex-husband's Cheyenne home.

The day before Guy-Thomas was charged the DCI agent sent a coded text message informing her the murder had been completed. Later, Casper police went to Guy-Thomas's house and told her that her ex-husband had been found dead under suspicious circumstances and that they needed to interview her about his social history.

She allegedly feigned emotion about her ex-husband's death before police arrested her.

Guy-Thomas's preliminary hearing is on hold until the new evaluation is complete.
