The moon took a bite out of the sun Thursday afternoon during a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse reached its height at 5:45 p.m. ET, NASA said, meaning the eastern half of the country should have gotten a view before the backdrop of golden twilight hues. People living in the Central Time Zone had the best view.

The blood moon eclipse returned for an encore early Wednesday morning. People in North America and Australia, and parts of South America and Asia, were treated to a total lunar eclipse. iReporter Paulo Solano combined three different exposures using HDR photography to create this beautiful image of the blood moon in Van Nuys, California.

There’s a real-life yellow brick road that leads to the Land of Oz, a vintage theme park that sits alone on top of Beech Mountain in North Carolina. Jessica Georgia and her family visited the revived theme park, which now operates as a vacation rental property, in late May. She says it was like being transported into “The Wizard of Oz” movie. “The gates are there, there were the yellow bricks, and the shell of what used to be a castle,” she said.

A solar flare created a rare opportunity to see the Northern Lights in places like Seattle, Chicago and New York Friday evening. 
Youvathana Sok was one of the lucky ones who had a chance to photograph the green and pink lights dazzling the night sky on September 12.  Sok escaped to Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park in Maine so that he could get an unobstructed view of the aurora borealis.
