Hegar, Collier Clash on Credentials, Taxes
After months spent chasing his opponent, Democratic Comptroller candidate Mike Collier finally had his chance to go one-on-one with Republican candidate Glenn Hegar Wednesday night. He used it to make the case that an accountant, not a politician, is best suited to be the state's chief bookkeeper.
Collier, a Houston accountant, and Hegar, a farmer and the youngest Republican state senator, met on the set of Austin's Time Warner Cable news for a 30-minute interview, their only joint appearance of the campaign.
Hegar handily leads the race in both cash on hand and polling. His remaining war chest ...

Mike Collier is the ONLY qualified candidate in this race. This is a no-brainer.

Hegar showed his true colors throughout BOTH special sessions last summer. He was clearly bought and paid for by an extreme right wing pro-life group as he paraphrased their exact words in his discussion of HB2 as he forced its passage in spite of being a representative to a state that is widely pro-choice. This woman and the rest of the "unruly mob" across the state are ready to embrace Collier with open arms. Hegar is a misogynist, pure and simple.

Amazing how far and wide our message has reached, and the level of historic importance to be memorialized in a museum collection. Read the correspondence below. Thank you everyone for all that you've done to make this happen.
Hi, I'm the archivist of a nonpartisan project compiling campaign buttons, lapel stickers and bumper stickers from state and national campaigns across the country and was wondering if it would be possible for your campaign to mail me any of those items. I plan on opening a virtual campaign memorabilia museum with artifacts from campaigns, 1896-present. The response has been tremendous so far (Alex Trebek even discussed my collection when I was a Jeopardy! contestant earlier this year) and I'd be honored to have some Ben Sanders items for the project. Any or all variations of items are welcome. Thank you so much and best of luck on November 4th! Andrew Nelson 233 Summer Street New Bedford, MA 02740 P.S. If sending any buttons, please mark "Hand Cancel" on the mailer. Thank you! - Andrew Nelson

In a rational and fair political system, Collier would win hands-down -- but in one like Texas has that is so heavily biased from concerted application of deep-pocket insider money and subjected to a wide variety of official actions aimed toward pushing of propaganda talking-point messages and ensuring minority voter-suppression, Hegar will almost certainly be successfully elected to the Comptroller position.
