United Parcel Service Inc. expects to deliver more than 585 million packages this holiday season -- up 11 percent increase over last year.

The Atlanta-based package shipping and logistics giant said its busiest day is likely Dec. 22, when it expects to handle 34 million packages. UPS delivers about 17 million packages on an average day.

UPS (NYSE: UPS) further noted the anticipated 585 million packages set side by side would circle the Earth nearly 4.5 times.
