Forever 21 plans to open its fifth Hawaii store and first in West Oahu, joining anchor Macy's and H&M at DeBartolo Development's planned 1.4 million-square-foot Ka Makana Alii shopping mall in East Kapolei, the Florida-based developer said Wednesday.

"Forever 21 has been hugely successful in Hawaii and the selection of Ka Makana Alii as the location for its next Island location is a testament to the strength of the West Oahu retail market," Edward Kobel, president and chief operating officer of DeBartolo Development, said in a statement. "As Ka Makana Alii becomes the shopping, dining and entertainment destination for West Oahu, Forever 21 will provide an exciting option for on-trend fashion at a great value in the heart of Hawaii's fastest growing region."

The Los Angeles-based trendy fashion retailer will open in a single-story, 12,000-square-foot store at Ka Makana Alii, which is expected to break ground later this year with the first phase of the mall scheduled to open in 2016.

When complete, the mall will include more than 150 stores and restaurants, two hotels and LEED-certified office space.
