Solution

Install the latest version of Flash Player for your browser. Follow these steps:

  1. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Flash Player.

  2. Determine whether an older Flash Player version is already installed on your Mac.

  3. Download and install the latest Flash Player version.

  4. Verify that installation is complete.

  5. Uninstall the older Flash Player version (if the installation is not successful for any reason).

  6. Troubleshoot: Flash Player download issues (if necessary).

  7. Troubleshoot: Progress bar hangs while installing Flash Player

1. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements for Flash Player

Compare your computer system to the Flash Player system requirements. If your system doesn't meet the requirements, don't continue to step 2. See Archived Flash Player versions.

2. Determine whether an older Flash Player version is already installed on your Mac

  1. See the Flash Player information displayed above, and check if you have the latest available Flash Player version.
The latest Flash Player version available for Mac OS:

    • Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 (Tiger, Leopard): 10.3.183.61
  2. If Flash Player is not installed or you don't have the latest version, download and install the latest Flash Player version.
Important: If you have Mac OS version 10.3 or earlier, or if your Mac does not have an Intel processor, do not download the latest Flash Player version. See Installing Flash Player on PowerPC-based Mac machines.

  3. Repeat step 1 and step 2 for each browser that you use.

Note: The integrated Google Chrome Flash plug-in cannot be uninstalled using the Flash Player uninstaller. You can only enable or disable the integrated plug-in as described in Using Flash Player with Google Chrome.

If you have already tried all of the steps above, but you still can't install or use Flash Player, try the following steps one at a time. After each step, repeat the steps in Download and install the latest Flash Player version.

Ensure that your computer is connected to the Internet

  1. Go to www.adobe.com to ensure that you are connected to the Internet.
  2. Temporarily disable any firewalls and antivirus software. See the firewall or antivirus documentation for information on temporarily disabling the firewall or antivirus software.
  3. Try downloading Flash Player to a different location on your computer.
  4. If you are using a wireless connection, try using a wired connection.

Ensure that your hard disk has enough space for the installer file

To increase free space, delete any unnecessary files and applications.

Increase the temporary Internet file cache size in Firefox

  1. Select Tools > Options.
  2. In the Advanced tab, click Network.
  3. In the Offline Storage area, increase the amount of space for the cache to the size of your file. (The default is 50 MB.)

Download at a different time of day

Try downloading Flash Player when there is less activity on the Internet, such as late evening, early morning, or on weekends.

Use a different browser

If you see a pop-up window asking you to install Flash Player after you have installed Flash Player, use a different web browser. For example, if you are using Apple Safari, then try using any other browser like Firefox or Chrome. If you still have problems, get the latest version of your browser.

In Safari, adjust the browser security level

In Safari, go to Safari > Preferences and select Open "Safe" Files After Downloading.

Allow pop-up windows and cookies

Allow pop-up windows in your browser or add www.adobe.com to your pop-up blocker exceptions list. In addition, allow third-party cookies. For instructions, see your browser documentation.

Check your firewall or network setup

  • If you run firewalls or network (proxy) software on your Mac, disable or remove software before installing Flash Player.
  • Contact Apple to ensure that the hardware works as expected and is not damaged or incorrectly configured.
  • If you connect to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server, verify that the device configured correctly. Contact your network administrator for assistance.
