STAGE & SCREEN

Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow

The Fox television series Sleepy Hollow might take some artistic liberties with Washington Irving’s original story, with a resurrected Ichabod Crane battling “netherworld evils” in a modern-day setting, but both book and show (now in its second year) are perfect primers for this Halloween season. Our new black-spine edition of the creepy tale features notes and an introduction by New York historian Elizabeth L. Bradley, and also includes “Rip Van Winkle,” “The Angler” and many other cherished Irving stories.

Of Mice and Men

Of Mice and Men cover

Missed the Broadway run for Anna D. Shapiro’s Of Mice and Men, which closed in July? You’re in luck: this autumn you’ll have another chance to see James Franco, Chris O’Dowd and Leighton Meester take on the roles of some of the most beloved characters in American literature. National Theatre Live filmed the Broadway production and, beginning November 6, over 700 theaters internationally will be screening the film of the play. Check NTL’s website for screenings near you, and watch for more locations and dates to come.
