Boeing Co.'s revenue increased 7 percent to reach $23.8 billion in the third quarter on higher deliveries of aircraft.
The company reported third quarter core operating earnings of $2.4 billion, up 13 percent from the prior-year quarter.
"Continued strong operating performance across our production and services businesses drove significant growth in earnings-per-share, and enabled us to continue to capture new business, pushing our order backlog to a record $490 billion," Jim McNerney, chairman and CEO, said in a statement. "We added net new orders for 501 commercial airplanes, launched the high-capacity 737 MAX 200, captured a NASA contract for the Commercial Crew program, and returned $1.5 billion to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases."
Boeing's Hazelwood-based Defense, Space & Security division reported third quarter revenue of $7.9 billion, down 2 percent from the third quarter of 2012. The division reported earnings from operations of $856 million, up 27 percent from the $673 million reported last year.
