Health Services of North Texas acquires clinic

Health Services of North Texas officials have completed the acquisition of Family Health Care Inc., whose staff, services and patients will now be a part of the nonprofit.

The move was supposed to happen earlier this month but was delayed as Family Health Care board members asked for an extension. At the time, Doreen Rue, CEO of Health Services of North Texas, was confident the move would take place and said business has been running smoothly since last week.

“It’s going great,” she said. “We hired the staff and they are continuing to work, which is nice for the patients to have the continuity of work from the same providers.”

Rue said the former Family Health Care clinic saw 3,600 patients in 2013. It will now be known as Health Services of North Texas Denton South Center and adds prenatal, family planning and increased women-specific health care to the list of services Health Services of North Texas provides.

Patrice Capan, former executive director of Family Health Care, will stay on as lead clinician for the south Denton center.

Rue said none of the Family Health Care board members were joining Health Services of North Texas at this time.

“Not that they couldn’t apply and be part of our board,” Rue said. “I’m not sure what their plan is in wrapping up their business. We’re just really expanding health services and not merging with them.”

Rue noted that Family Health Care has been around for a number of years and has done an excellent job of looking after the people in the community.

“We’re just excited we will be able to continue to keep these services in the community and carry on the work they did for so long,” she said.
