Regulators Weigh Plan for Northeast Texas Reservoir

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is considering a plan to build the Lower Bois d'Arc Creek Reservoir in Fannin County — a reservoir that could be one of the last to be built in the state in the coming decades. Northeast Texas residents have raised concerns, and regulators will consider whether to refer any of those concerns to an administrative law judge.

Rain-generating El Nino likely to start helping Dallas area soon, forecaster says

The long-awaited weather pattern that's expected to bring rain to the Dallas area and other parts of Texas is forecast to arrive next month. El Nino raises the chances in many parts of the state for abundant rain through February, which would raise lake levels and improve soil moisture, said Victor Murphy, a National Weather Service meteorologist  in Fort Worth.

SAWS days away from pipeline decision

San Antonio Water System trustees will vote in less than a week on a proposed $3.4 billion pipeline project that one board member said is San Antonio's answer to its heavy reliance on the Edwards Aquifer. SAWS Trustee Reed Williams, a former city councilman who helped negotiate a contract, said the project will protect the Edwards and Carrizo-Wilcox aquifers if leaders at both ends of the pipeline cooperate.

Congressional group calls for Obama to intervene on water with Mexico

A bipartisan group of Texas Congressional members sent a letter to President Barack Obama this week, asking for his administration’s intervention in the 1944 Water Treaty between the United States and Mexico. The letter states the group is frustrated by Mexico’s lack of commitment to regularly deliver water to the United States as required by the water sharing treaty.
