(1090 The Fan) — Seattle Mariners right-handed pitcher Chris Young talked with The Steve Sandmeyer Show after being named the American League Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News.

Young was asked about his offseason and future, and spoke about how close he came to retirement during his struggles with shoulder injuries. In the summer of 2013, Young thought “maybe this wasn’t meant to be,” but then received a diagnosis and ensuing surgery that ultimately brought him back to the big leagues.

Young will be a free agent at the conclusion of the World Series later this month but can negotiate with the Mariners before then. When asked about the M’s and 2015, Young stated he’s had positive talks with the club.
