This new facility is designed to support the Ruby Mountain HotShot Crew, a national interagency crew of 20 firefighters, based in Elko, who fight the most troublesome fires throughout the U.S. The new facility contains office, work space and housing for up to 25 firefighters. It has two buildings, a chainsaw/tool maintenance shop, a hazardous material storage building, engine bays for HotShot crew carriers as well as a briefing room and fitness room. . Construction on the new facility began October 2009 and completed June 2011. The facility became operational July 2011. Total cost of the new facility was approximately $2.2 million and was part of 42 funded projects under BLM Nevada’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
