While CDC #DiseaseDetective Ben was in Liberia, the #Ebola outbreak rapidly escalated in size and intensity. “It was difficult,” he admits. “The situation evolved incredibly quickly while I was there. The messages we started with—that Ebola... is real, and everyone should be reporting cases to healthcare workers—got lost in lots of fear.” One of the most difficult challenges was how to develop messages to get people to quickly change their behavior. Hospitals in Missouri and Illinois are seeing more children than usual with severe respiratory illness caused by enterovirus D68. Several other states are investigating clusters of children with severe respiratory illnesses as well. Enterov...irus D68 infections were first identified in 1962 and can cause mild to severe illness. The virus likely spreads from person to person, like the common cold. There are no antiviral medications to treat an EV-D68 infection and no vaccine to prevent it. Learn more about EV-D68: http://1.usa.gov/1AsawQ5 See More
