The development and validation of low-cost, portable technologies that can improve cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment in low- and middle-income countries is a priority for the NCI Center for Global Health (CGH). Seven new research awards support promising work in this area.

Although some childhood cancers can be successfully treated, cancer remains the leading cause of childhood death from disease. NCI supports research to understand what causes childhood cancers and to find treatments specifically for children.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, with 233,000 new cases expected in the United States in 2014. When prostate cancer is found and treated before it has spread through the body, survival rates are high. In fact, 98.9 percent of men with a prostate cancer diagnosis survive at least 5 years.
