ESPN's Buster Olney has been told by teams that have talked to the Phillies that they're "extremely motivated" to trade Jonathan Papelbon.

Advice: The problem, of course, is that Papelbon isn't as good as he used to be and will be owed $39 million over the next three seasons if his 2016 option vests. There have also been reports that Papelbon has clashed with his teammates in Philly, and with his no-trade clause he's only able to be dealt to 12 approved teams. If the Phillies are able to trade him, it would have to be a straight salary dump and even then they still might have to eat some money.

Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News believes that the Phillies will have difficulty trading closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Advice: A report from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports suggested earlier in the day that the team was trying to deal the veteran closer, but Lawrence believes that due to his declining skills, $26 million remaining on his contract and his volatile personality, that it may be difficult to do so. Papelbon also possesses a no-trade clause that only allows him to be dealt to 12 approved teams, which makes it rather unlikely that he'll be wearing a new uniform in 2014.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are trying to trade Jonathan Papelbon.

Advice: Papelbon has two years and $26 million left on his contract that also contains a vesting option for a third year. He also had a career-low 8.3 K/9 ratio in 2013 and saw his velocity dip for the second straight season. It's possible the Phillies will be able to convince someone to take him off their hands, but they might have to eat some money in the process. Another issue is that Papelbon has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to stipulate 12 teams to which he will accept a trade.
