The University Interscholastic League was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. Since 1909 the UIL has grown into the largest organization of its kind in the world.

Recent Updates
The UIL is encouraging its member schools to take part in National High School Activities Week on October 11-17, 2009. Since 1980, schools across America have promoted the values and needs of interscholastic activity programs through National High School Activities Week. By learning the values inherent in interscholastic competition, students are more likely to stay in school, perform better academically and become better citizens.
The Legislative Council meeting will be held on October 25 and 26 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, 1900 University Ave., Austin.

The UIL Ad Hoc Committee on Officials will meet on September 1, 2009 and the Ad Hoc Committee on Non-School Activities will meet on September 21.
As part of the UIL's Centennial Celebration, voting is now open for the UIL Football All-Century Team.

The NFHS Swimming and Diving Rules Committee recommended and the NFHS Board of Directors approved changes to Rule 3-3-2 with an immediate implementation date for the 2009-10 school year.
The September 16 meeting of the Legislative Council Standing committee on Music has been postponed until October 25. Suggestions regarding rule changes are still being accepted and will be considered at that time.
