TxDOT and the Tyler Metropolitan Planning Organization have allocated construction funds for improvements to FM 2493 between FM 2813 and FM 346 south of Tyler. Improvements to address congestion and safety include the following:
- Widen the highway from two lanes to four
- Center left turn lane
- Sidewalks
- Curbs and gutters
- Improved visibility at Spruce Hill Road
The project will require the acquisition of new right of way.
Schedule
- A review of possible impacts the project could have on the environment (Enivronmental Assesment) is underway.
- A public hearing is anticipated in the summer of 2014.
- Environmental clearance from the Federal Highway Administration is expected in the summer of 2015.
- Right of way acquisition will begin in 2016.
- Right of way acquisition and construction plans should be complete in 2018.
- Current financial forecasts show construction funds available in 2020.
Get Involved
A public meeting was held on June 4, 2013 to present three project alternatives. TxDOT is presenting the Alternative No. 1 as the preferred alignment after reviewing public comments and evaluating impacts. This information will be presented at a second public meeting at the following time and place:
