Loy Lake Bridge Improvement Project

Why Improvements are Needed

The bridge has met capacity and traffic often stalls across the bridge onto Loy Lake Road. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to widen the bridge to improve safety and relieve congestion.

Project Includes

  • Widening the existing roadway from two to four lanes plus left-turn lanes
  • Aesthetic improvements, including colored/textured concrete in the island medians and painting of the bridge

Schedule and Cost

Construction is anticipated to begin in March 2014 and last about 12 months. The estimated construction cost for the improvements is $5.6 million.

Ragle Construction Inc. is the contractor. This project is funded via a public-private partnership between the City of Sherman, United Commercial Realty and TxDOT.

Details

Loy Lake Bridge will be widened by two lanes and one left turn lane in each direction.

The City of Sherman will continue the construction south of the intersection to Sarah Swamy Drive, which will become a four-lane divided section of roadway. Once construction is complete, drivers can expect a right turn lane from Sarah Swamy Drive onto Loy Lake Road. A traffic light is also being installed at the intersection.

Updates

TxDOT will keep the public informed about road closures and detours throughout construction via area media alerts and periodic public meetings. These updates will instruct the public on how best to move through the construction zones as work progresses on this long-awaited community improvement project.
