Katy Perry is a complete knock-out on the cover of Marie Claire Australia’s December issue. The long-haired beauty poses in a beaded crop top and high-waisted skirt — expertly walking the line between classy and brassy, while still showcasing her killer curves.

The interview isn’t online yet but the headline isn’t exactly encouraging. “Yes, I’m in love!” it screams. How is that news? Anyone who has listened to Prism knows that Katy is seriously loved up. She’s also mentioned the healing powers of romancing John Mayer in every second article. Oh well, at least the pictures are pretty! More »

Michelle Williams Taps Fantasia For The “If We Had Your Eyes” Remix: Listen

November 5th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Michelle Williams blurs the lines between gospel and R&B even further with a powerful new remix of “If We Had Your Eyes” featuring the powerful pipes of gal pal Fantasia. The two god-fearing divas make an excellent duo, feeding off each other in the now even-more-inspiring mid-tempo ballad.

The best thing about Michelle and Fantasia joining forces is that they both possess such distinctive voices. It’s great to hear someone playing off the Destiny’s Child diva’s gravelly vocal runs and their vocal tug-of-war in the chorus is spine-chilling. Listen to “If We Had Your Eyes” 2.0 after the jump. Popping Up: Ilia Darlin

November 5th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Ilia Darlin first appeared on our pop radar way back in 2011 with “Car Crash” (a catchy Lady Gaga-lite pop song she subsequently disowned), before gaining wider attention last year with edgy synth-pop gems “Hit Me” and “Even When I Lose”.

It was only a matter of time before the best-kept secret in pop had an international breakthrough and it finally happened this summer when Pop Justice named new single “We Do What We Like” their song of the day (giving it an 8/10 rating, no less) and blogs finally started buzzing about the raven-haired beauty.

We invited Ilia to Idolator studio to chat about her budding pop career, evolving sound and love affair with Los Angeles. Learn all there is to know about the Greek diva after the jump and make sure you check out her live version of “We Do What We Like”. It’s extraordinary. More »

Little Mix are following up their absolutely brilliant lead single “Move” by releasing their sophomore LP Salute November 11 in the UK, and in anticipation of that, they’ve unveiled a new song from the upcoming set — and it’s a thrilling throwback to ’90s R&B, like hearing your favorite Destiny’s Child and Aaliyah songs for the first time. It’s not just nostalgic — it sounds like an artifact of the times.

The half-acapella, half-finger-snapped “Boy” plays like classic Timbaland (“Are U That Somebody?” being the most obvious comparison), while the girls’ vocals and harmonies merge gloriously for an eerie effect. More »

The Hive Does Not Like Beyonce’s New Hair. At All.

November 5th, 2013 // Leave a Comment

Beyonce‘s Hive is feared wherever there is an internet connection. Her shading-throwing, wig-snatching fans are fiercely protective and loyal but they have been known to sting their fave when pushed far enough. Queen Bey felt the Hive’s full wrath this morning (November 5) when she dared set foot on stage with bad hair.

Since chopping off her iconic locks earlier this year, Beyonce’s weave swiftly returned to its former glory. The R&B diva packed her suitcase full of lace-fronts for the Australian leg of The Mrs. Carter Show but clearly lost her luggage on the way to Adelaide — where she performed last night with a parted, curly bob. See how the Hive (over-) reacted after the jump. More »

Celine Dion‘s first English language studio album in six long, painful years hits retailers today (November 5) and has music critics buzzing about the diva’s eclectic collaborators (Sia, Ne-Yo and Eg White among others) and slightly more contemporary pop sound.

In my review of the endearing LP, I argued that Celine gave her trademark ballad-heavy sound a highly flattering facelift but stumbled at the final hurdle, regressing to old, middle-of-the-road habits on the album’s final few tracks. See what other critics had to say about the Canadian diva’s latest opus after the jump. More »
