Tweet from Geneva Overholser, who is steering the J-School at USC, on focusing the future-of-journalism debate http://is.gd/hPhE
Obama, says Jake, has "disdain for the press." Like with that whole "lipstick on a pig" thing. Pause. Actually that was pretty disdain-able!
@howardweaver Jake Tapper on Charlie Rose http://is.gd/hP5v Obama and the press, he says, is a case of "unrequited love." But not for Jake.
@davidwestphal Investigative unit: good idea. See http://is.gd/fZGF Coll WAS talking about "endowing the press we have." http://is.gd/hyTu
Here's a better link for my coming up now radio appearance on Brian Lehrer's show, WNYC http://is.gd/hOU3 Newspaper bail-out watch.
Well, I'm going to be on the Brian Lehrer show on WNYC talking about save the newspaper schemes. Listen: http://is.gd/hOPd I'm on next
Jake Tapper, ABC's White House guy, Charlie Rose Jan. 21. "Some of us try to maybe report on our feet a little bit more than on our knees."
In my view, @davidwestphal, "give us money to preserve the press we have" is less persuasive than, "help fund the kind of press we need."
But I will say I am not impressed one bit with the press operation or briefing room performances of Robert Gibbs. He has to raise his game.
Hi, @bethbellor Obama's press office started slowly and made some dumb moves. To claim he's adopted the Bush model is fatuous, narcissistic.
It would "only" take $114 billion to endow all newspapers in the U.S., but that's not the way to go, says Zach Seward. http://is.gd/hO8t
In the opinion of @craignewmark Katie Stanton of Google is very competent and committed to the "culture of participation." http://is.gd/hyrW
My argument for why journalists should blog: to learn about the two-way Web. @paulbradshaw has findings in line with that. http://is.gd/hHf0
What do you think? Obama's new director of citizen participation http://is.gd/hK1V worked on a various "open" systems at Google.
Thanks to all for those responses to "... help me elude this conversation." http://is.gd/hHUr. @lisawilliams is doing a reply post, right?
I like your sketch: How to Re-Capitalize the New York Times, @LeonardWitt http://is.gd/hDpR If "we" own the newsroom, how do we govern it?
"We own the newsroom, the New York Times owns everything else." Different plan; turns subscribers into shares in a co-op http://is.gd/hDpR
@lisawilliams It was James Carey who said "the public is the god term of journalism." See http://is.gd/hJhh no. 6.
"Twitter a Hot Topic at mb's 'Journalists and Social Media' Panel" Coverage of an event I spoke at last night in Tribeca http://is.gd/hJfJ
Director of Citizen Participation is part of the White House New Media operation. Parallel is to the "community manager" jobs in newsland.
