Numerous firefighters are working through the night trying to put out the remnants of a fiery blaze that began more than two hours ago on Duncan Street, officials said.

Kenneth Hedges, spokesman for Denton Fire Department, said It was about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when the department received a call reporting flames seen at an area business that he said is now a “complete and total loss.”

Upon arrival to Moore Supply Company on Duncan Street, crews reported flames seen from the eaves of the roof to the estimated 10,000-square-foot office showroom and warehouse. Within 15-20 minutes, a second alarm was called, Hedges said.

“We had to go into a defensive attack,” he said. “The fire quickly spread.”

Moore Supply Company is a top distributor of premier plumbing products as well as pipe valves and fittings from the best manufacturers for residential, commercial and industrial construction, according to the company’s website.

Hedges said the 2-alarm fire had numerous plastics and chemicals burning, and even some propane bottles were popping off inside.

Around 12:40 a.m. Friday, Hedges said fire was still smoldering, but the flames were out.

The entire fleet from Denton Fire was on scene, he said, in addition to a ladder truck from Carrollton and an engine from Lewisville.

Mutual aid from other agencies are working their calls throughout the overnight hours while Denton crews stay on scene in the below freezing tempatures.

Dallas Drive in both directions was closed to run a line, Hedges said, but he expects most all area roads to be open in time for the morning commute. Duncan Street, officials said, could still be closed.

“Crews will be here working through the night and into the morning putting everything out and working on overhaul,” Hedges said. “Nothing is salvagable.”

A long-time Denton police officer passed away Tuesday.

Edward Reynolds served 20 years with the Denton Police Department, his son and current UNT Police Deputy Chief Ed Reynolds said Wednesday.

He joined the United States Marines shortly after graduating Tioga High School and after his enlistment,he joined the Denton Police Department in 1962.

While working as a detective, Reynolds and a co-worker, Det. Jim Bush, were shot in the line of duty in 1964 responding to a person with a gun call, his son said.

“He survived the shooting after multiple surgeries and a long recovery period,” the UNT police chief deputy said.

Reynolds retired as a captain with the department in 1982.

“Even though most of us may not have had the opportunity to know Captain Reynolds he wore our badge and patrolled the same streets we do today,” Capt. Roger White said in am email to police department employees Wednesday announcing his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Wallace Reynolds and his sons Robert (Robby) Reynolds, Christopher (Chris) Allen Reynolds, Benny Joe Reynolds, Ed Wallace Reynolds, and grandchildren Ryan Heath Reynolds, Cole Edward Reynolds, and Sydney Marie Reynolds, according to his obituary.

Visitation will be at DeBerry Funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Prairie Mound cemetery in Argyle. The funeral procession will leave DeBerry’s shortly after 9:30 a.m. and The Denton Police Department Honor Guard will provide detail at the viewing and graveside service, officials said.

Officers in uniform are encouraged to attend.

Search crews are currently underway looking for a man in his early 30s that was reported missing since Friday evening on Lewisville Lake.

Game Warden Daron Blackerby said a call came in Friday around 9:15 p.m. about a man and woman having difficulty on a stratus style bass boat on the Lake Dallas side of the lake.

Lewisville Fire Department rescue crews were able to assist in helping the woman to safety, officials said, but the man- believed to be from Little Elm- was already missing.

The boat had already started sinking, Blackerby said, and the woman was able to make her way to the top part of the boat where she was found.

“We have been out searching since 7 this morning and now more boat traffic is out so it’s making things a bit difficult,” Blackerby said.

The Denton County Sheriff’s Office and the Lewisville Fire Department are assisting in the search that’s taking place anywhere from north of the old dam to the shoreline to the Westlake Park boat ramp to north of the area known as “party cove”, officials said.

“It’s a large search area,” Blackerby said Saturday afternoon.

This would be the first drowning related death on the lake this year. Last year, Denton County officials said there was nine drowning related deaths linked to being found in a lake body.

The missing man, officials said, was reportedly not wearing a life jacket.

One man remains in critical condition after being stabbed outside a club on Eagle Drive early Saturday morning, officials said.

Officers were dispatched at 2:16 a.m. to a stabbing outside of Club Heat, located at 801 Eagle Drive, after a 35-year-old Hispanic male received a laceration to his throat.

Police said the altercation started inside the club and then escalated outside into a parking lot.

The 35-year-old was transported by the Denton Fire Department via ambulance to Denton Regional Medical Center where he still remains in critical condition.

The male suspect, police said, was located at a nearby apartment complex with the help of witnesses. The man, who remains unidentified, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Two suspects are on the loose after robbing a jewelry store inside Vista Ridge Mall around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Initial reports came in as shots fired in the 2400 block of S Stemmons Freeway,but Capt. Jay Powell said those reports were untrue. No shots were fired and nobody was injured, Powell said.

Police said the two suspects entered a jewelry store and confronted the employee before stealing jewelry from the store and running out of the mall.

Powell said at least one suspect was armed. During their escape Tuesday afternoon, they were involved in a hit and run crash on Round Grove Road. No injuries were reported.

The duo was last seen in a red, four-door sedan that’s missing the passenger side rear view mirror.

A man struck by a train was killed instantly late Monday night.
Officer Orlando Hinojosa, spokesman for Denton police, said a man on the railroad tracks near Dallas Drive was struck and killed by a Union Pacific Railroad train.
The man, believed to be Hispanic and in his late 20s to mid 30s, has not yet been identified.
The call came into dispatch at 10:19 p.m., Hinojosa said.
Denton Fire Department assisted in locating the man’s body that was found nearly 50 yards south of Dallas Drive.
Union Pacific Railroad investigators were called to the scene and will be heading up the investigation, police said.
No further details are immediately available. An investigation is underway.
