Major Glitch with Delete/remove/leave group Functions going on

Dear Yahoo! It appears there is a system wide glitch / bug that is affecting many delete functions in addition to the "remove member" "leave group" function.

Many have provided feedback individually. Can you consolidate this issue and votes and escalate it? Thank you for your hard work in providing us with a great product. We appreciate your prompt review of this issue.

Disaster When Editing Database File

As a Yahoo Group owner/moderator of a particular group for many years, I "edited" an active Database file. It is my responsibility to keep Database files up-to-date. Members of this Group may not create nor edit any database file. Database files benefit ALL members of my Group.

Recently, I edited an important file and, after clicking "Save," I was denied access to this Database file. This Database file now reads: "Updated on Dec. 28, 1969. All members now see that same statement.

As a test, I made one simple change in an ordinarily less active Database file. After clicking "Save" the Database file also says "Updated on Dec. 28, 1969." Ridicules results!!

Please help to rectify. Thank you.

Return Groups format to prior format that WORKS!

The new format does is NOT user friendly and works poorly and destroys some of that attracts new members to my group.

The home page is gone. People join my group to get photos of their dogs edited and honored by being posted on the group home page which is now GONE! Only ONE of the photos can be seen at ALL.

The functionality of all parts of the group is severely degraded and NOT user friendly.

I tried to reorder groups and the functionality is so bad as to make it almost worthless. I can ONLY scroll to the bottom of the list if I move something from the top 10 down, and then I can bring something back up, but then I have not way to get that top10 item back up without moving about 6 to 8 groups around to slowly drag it back up to where I want IT to be.

I cannot view photos attached to messages sent to the group. A thumbnail attached to the email does NOT take me to the photos. It takes me to somewhere totally wrong.

When I click on Photos, I'm shown large icons of one photo from several albums, but even on mouseover, I am NOT given the album's NAME, so I don't know whose album it is. I can't get a LIST of album names to look for the one I want.

"Messages" is replaced by conversations and there is NO option to select a specific month to go to in order to read messages from that month/year. There is also no Search window to allow me to do a keyword search for messages in the archives on any specific topic.

Files has the files almost in alphabetical order, but files are mixed with folders and that's less helpful than having folders at the top.

Links has the folders at the top and the unfiled links below that, which is almost good, but they are NOT in alphabetical order and I cannot select what order to have them shown in.

I'm not allowed to edit the opening "info" webpage like I used to edit the group homepage. Only ONE of the 3 graphics I created to honor 6 new group members is findable and you have to know where and how to find it.

The group description is no longer editable!

Members are all set to "default group policy" rather than "moderated" or "not moderated" and now I have to go figure out what YOU reset MY GROUP POLICY on message posting to. This is IRRITATING!

The Export function for the membership list is the FIRST thing I've found that is appealing and helpful.

The Control Panel/About Group is where I can edit the DAMAGED copy (damaged by Yahoo) of the html code that used to be on my group's home page.

The Control Panel/Access Control looks good, BUT YOU ALTERED MY SETTINGS without MY input or permission.

The Control Panel/Group Settings appears to be ok, but it's one of the few things that I have no problem with.

Messages posted to the group are also coming through MUCH MORE SLUGGISHLY than before.

I find NOWHERE any link to photos attached to emails, which was available.
I find NO Spam Pending Email folder.

I find NO option to change BACK to the format that you got rid of, but if I could put my group back to the prior format, I would DO SO IMMEDIATELY!

You need to take member and moderator and owner opinions into account and return us to the prior format and not make such drastic changes with NO NOTICE and NO user feedback BEFOREHAND! I REQUEST YOU RETURN ALL GROUPS TO THE PRIOR FORMAT. IT WORKED! THE NEW ONE IS HORRIBLE AND MANY PORTIONS DO NOT WORK AT ALL.

We’ve made a number of changes to the new experience, based on feedback from you, some of them are:

1. Previous / Next navigation to move from one message or topic to another is now working well

2. The default page that opens when clicking on a group name on the left navigation panel is messages as requested by many of our users

3. The messages list shows a larger preview of the message this is the same view as seen on the ‘Groups home’ page that has latest updates from across your groups

4. Message history is more discoverable on the conversation toolbar – this allows access to messages from the archive by specific month and year

5.Photos albums and photos have their title information displayed by default ( it was appearing on hover)

6. Files – list of files and folders can be sorted alphabetically.

7. Improvements in making the customization of cover Image for your group work well with all major browser versions.

8. Search messages using universal search – we’ve made it more discoverable by using default text in the search box that reads “Search conversations”

9. Optimized experience for Tablets

10. Optimized experience for Mobile phones – now you can use conversations, photos and Polls ( not all features are enabled for the mobile experience)

To make the transition easy to the new experience, we’ve had the product overview video & the product tour slideshow available since the beginning.

The groups help site as well as the community help site on Y! Answers have help articles specific to features and how to use them. Links to help articles are placed contextually in the product experience.

Every single group owner I know loathes NEO and wants Classic groups format back!

I own/moderate ~4 dozen Yahoo! groups with a combined membership total of ~165,000 members. In the old format, I could approve or deny membership join requests 25 at a time from a drop-down menu at the top or bottom of the page (not so in NEO). I could sort all members alphabetically, by join date or message delivery style, as I d not permit people to join my groups and elect to receive NO MAIL (sure sign of a $pammer and they are 'dead weight' contributing nothing to the group and Yahoo! can't **** advertising banners at them) also, not true in NEO. Previously, I used to be able to when starting up a new group use a list of 'known $pammers or trouble makers and preemptively ban them from joining my group[s] (not so in NEO). In old style groups, if a pending message sat unattended to for 14 days, it was auto deleted from the queue and the poster was sent a notice by Yahoo! informing them of the status of their post automatically (not so in NEO). I am a moderator with 'limited' powers in one group: RASELI where our group founder took seriously ill in May of last year before giving me message aprpoval ability. He has been at death's door since then and just last week came out of a coma and is still in the hospital. He finally gave me message approval ability a few days ago, but mow I am looking at 18,000+ backlogged pending messages. I used to be able to 'mass delete' unread no longer relevant pending messages in Classic style (25 at a time with a couple of mouse clicks). Now in NEO, I have to approve or delete each message individually. They will only display 3 or 4 messages at a time and if a message is particularly wordy, I have to scroll to the bottom of the message to delete or approve it and then scroll back up the page to even see the next message and then refresh the page every 3 messages. I will literally be using over 1000 hours to both clear out the 18k+ backlog as well as the 100 -200 messages that are new each day. At this rate, it will be another 6 to 8 months before I get 'caught up'. Why by all that's Holy did Yahoo! ever feel that such a dysfunctional and decidedly moderator UN-friendly format as NEO was a 'good thing'? And why did they foist it everyone with NO notice or ability to prepare?

yahoo group is moving in wrong direction....... i feel sorry for you yahoo developer team

i am owner of nidokidos group having 500000 + members

i am so much hopeless with the NEO interface of yahoo group and i reject it totally. its a disaster.

the classic version of yahoo group required a lot of improvements , and i was waiting for those improvements to be done , but yahoo group started moving in opposite direction , towards disaster....

for example.
1) yahoo group need to get rid of open groups , they are just baskets of spams , their existence was giving bad name to yahoo group

2) yahoo group need to improve the attachment viewing problem , the first picture of yahoo group was always missing and placed on 2nd one. the problem stayed forever in yahoo group , and then we saw NEO was launched.

3) i have many more suggestions for yahoo groups classic , so that yahoogroup can generate more results with less resources but .....NEO is launched , we moved yahoo group towards disaster, we do not need NEO , neo is having so many problems that i can list it out here.. here are few.

A) emails are getting merged
B) emails are washed....GONE... cant find where they gone
C) no HTML view/ edit :(
D) no view to embeded images , i cant see what i am going to approve....what a disaster
E) no option to save the work after editing, so that we can approve it later after verifying
F) i cant see whether an email is having HTML body with it or not , or it is text only :(
G) emails are sorted like never before , i select some emails and then i see a lot of more mess waiting for me....
H) i wonder who asked for the NEO interface and what was the purpose.

i suggest yahoo kindly return back to yahoo group classic , we will give a lot of good suggestions to improve its performance in less resources. kindly consider my request.

We’ve introduced cover image per Group that can be customized by the group owner and moderator. We have default images that can be removed and your custom image added.

Move your mouse over the cover image and if you are the owner or moderator, you will see “Change cover image” button.

The Group image that was already submitted is preserved and not lost. It is used as a thumbnail, part of the search results and the listing of the group in the Groups directory. We will consider bringing this back on the “About Group” page.

1- i cannot approve any member on the web ->> same error message "Sorry, an error occurred while loading the content." i am obliged to approve all members via email
i am owner of an other smaller group, and in this one I CAN APPROVE members
why i cannot approve in one group and i can in an other ?

2 – The pending mails as you show them is a nightmare to manage the pending should be as a LIST like before – this is not suitable for big groups who have a lot of mails in pending
the way the pending mails actually show up are exactly like if you had 100 mails in your mail box alll open at the same time and showing one after one
you must add back the pending mails as a LIST

3 - pending mails : VIEW SOURCE - THIS IS A BASIC NECESSARY TOOL for a group owner/moderator
you added back the option to edit a mail - but i think you do not know what means “EDIT A MAIL” ->>>
we need to EDIT THE SOURCE of the mails in pending and see the HTML CODES of the mails like before in case we have to remove hyperlinks

4- pending mails : the "approve/reject" buttom should be ON TOP of each mail and not at the end to avoid unnecesary scroll down

5 - pending mails : there are 2 ways to embed a photo inside a mail
a- you can embed them as a holinked link - these pictures show up in pending mails
b- you can embed photos from your hard disk - in this case the photos are embed as an attachment
and in this case the embeded photos DO NOT SHOW UP in the pending mails
in yahoo classic when we edited a mail these embeded photos appeared as an attachment and we could see them
now the mails appear like EMPTY
you must show up all embeded photos in pending mails and show them as attachments so we can see what we approve

6- pending mails : the pending mails preview is cut on the right size – so the photos do not appear fully

you added a "slide bar" to scroll from right to left to see the mails
this slide bar is NOT STABLE when we go again on top the mail it deseapear

10 – i cannot UNBOUNCE members –
there is a BUG in the unbounce - when you choose a bouncing member, in same time it is written that you can send him a reactivation request because the last was sent in more than 24 hours
but when you clic on “send reactivation request” it is written that “We sent a reactivation request in the last 24 hours. Only one reactivation request can be sent within that time frame”
even the date of the last reactivation request was much older - so what is right ? if the reactivation request is older than 24 hours why after does it say you already sent it in less than 24 hour ?
you say one thing and the contrary at the same time !

11 - bouncing members should have the possiblity to unbounce themselves even they do not have a YAHOO ID - You could create a mail adresse like groupname-unbounce@yahoogroups.com

12 – when i chose to classify my members by date of arrival and not by alphabetic order, my choice is NOT SAVED next time it is again by alphabetic order – the choice SHOULD BE SAVED
it was saved in classic groups

13 – we need the complete message historic on the home page of the group like before a member who wish to join the group need to know how many mails he will receive daily or montly
and date of creation of the group - the Info you show up on the "about page" are no NOT ENOUGHT

so PLEASE GIVE US THESE THINGS WE NEED BACK

at the end i will say that i HATE THE NEW LOOK AND I HATE THE NEO GROUPS
i opened this group in 2005 and i really loved it - but now I HATE IT !
i try to make it work because some members do not want me to close it !

SO PROVE US THAT YAHOO CAN STILL WORK THE WAY WE NEED IT TO WORK
otherwise for me there is no more reason to keep this group
3 long month that we suffer because of this nightmare, i think it's too many efforts given for sometimes which do not deserve it !

Yahoo: The enhancement to show all messages in expanded view one below the other was made based popular request from our customer on this forum.

Yahoo: While approving pending messages moderators can edit the message before approving.

Yahoo :The thinking is that a message is reviewed before approving so the approve /reject button is placed below.

10 – i cannot UNBOUNCE members –  there is a BUG in the unbounce – when you choose a bouncing member, in same time it is written that you can send him a reactivation request because the last was sent in more than 24 hours  but when you clic on “send reactivation request” it is written that “We sent a reactivation request in the last 24 hours. Only one reactivation request can be sent within that time frame”  even the date of the last reactivation request was much older – so what is right ? if the reactivation request is older than 24 hours why after does it say you already sent it in less than 24 hour ?  you say one thing and the contrary at the same time !

Yahoo : The unbound action results in a confirmation message that might be a bit misleading – will fix the message. The functionality work fine. 

11 – bouncing members should have the possiblity to unbounce themselves even they do not have a YAHOO ID – You could create a mail adresse like groupname-unbounce@yahoogroups.com

Yahoo : We will consider this new feature request and prioritize with other pending feature requests backlog

12 – when i chose to classify my members by date of arrival and not by alphabetic order, my choice is NOT SAVED next time it is again by alphabetic order – the choice SHOULD BE SAVED  it was saved in classic groups

Yahoo : Remembering sort order on members page per browser – this enhancement will be made soon

13 – we need the complete message historic on the home page of the group like before…

Yahoo : We are tracking this request already and we would prioritize with other pending feature requests backlog

2 – The pending mails as you show them is a nightmare to manage the pending should be as a LIST like before – this is not suitable for big groups who have a lot of mails in pending  the way the pending mails actually show up are exactly like if you had 100 mails in your mail box alll open at the same time and showing one after one  you must add back the pending mails as a LIST

Yahoo: The enhancement to show all messages in expanded view one below the other was made based popular request from our customer on this forum.

In past, through the use of Yahoo groups, we have been able to save the lives of 1500+ dogs. Within our group we all use it as a reference point for dogs in need, foster parent dogs in care, contact lists, applications in flight and a bucketload of other critical information.that we use day in and day out.

This new database is neither fish nor fowl. Sort of excel like, but without any of the functionality. Used to be legible at a single glance. Now it's scroll left, scroll right, try to remember the column headers. Search tool doesn't work at all.

Yahoo was providing a valuable service by supporting our efforts to save lives.

If anything, the database functionality could have been made more robust by improving the database security of the original version or by adding more than 10 data elements.. This rollout? Poorly managed. Poorly tested. Lacks the same functionality. Nothing user friendly about it.

I'm not resistant to change, it is inevitable, but my presumption is that change brings product or process improvement. This does neither.

Please bring back the old version and improve it instead.

Photos problem

As owner of several craft groups - I have found that it is not possible to delete pictures or move to another album - this did work once but not this week - What is happening - please Fix this urgently!!!!! All I get is the purple band saying an error occurred loading the content!!!!

Apostrophes in text files are converted to "'" gibberish, viewed from all browsers. Please fix this bug. Our old files used to look fine, but since Neo, the apostrophes have been converted to the gibberish.

Files are being corrupted on upload.

I load a zipped file regularly and have done for years. Same software, same platform but suddenly the files are corrupt. I have proved it is Yahoo doing this - started on 10th December - possibly 9th

Is anyone at Yahoo listening to the complaints and problems with NEO?????????????????

We have been unable to delete anything on the groups for three weeks now - has anyone at Yahoo been made aware of this problem - I managed to contact Customer Care but so far only received the basic acknowledgement.

Give us all a Happy Christmas by sorting out these errors - P L E A S E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Editing Messages Not Working in New Format

Your new format that now allows us to reject messages with comments sent to both sender and moderators is a definite improvement. But with it, we LOST THE ABILITY TO EDIT MESSAGES. It says we can edit, but we can't. That's been true for two days now. I'm so tired of editing a message and then getting the purple bar that says, "Trouble loading content" with all my edits and hard work gone! It is VERY frustrating. PLEASE FIX ASAP.

List of ISSUES with NEO - things to restore or fix or add - please add your comments

Here is an update to the list of issues we still have with NEO and which many are posting about in the Group Managers Forum, Group of Groups, Email List manager and on

We all took a lot of time to provide comments before and we were up to over 500 votes but I no longer see that feedback - so here is a fresh one:

1- REJECT A POST WITH REASON: as you used to be able to do in classic . This means that via web browser you can have the option in pending messages to select : EDIT / REJECT/ DELETE
and reject will mean as it did in classic, that you can send a private reply to the poster with a reason for rejection and CC the other moderators. It was such a wonderful feature and you removed it.

2- ACTIVITY LOGS NEEDS A SEARCH FEATURE: Please, this is crucial to moderating large groups and monitoring folk who switch ID/emails. Especially problematic ones, and especially now that we can't even download our member list beyond 1000 names. Please make the activity LOG searchable as it was before. If you approve someone based on the email address and identity provided at sign up and then they change their ID/ email afterwards, I can no longer search for that. I will never again know who they are. Imagine what a nightmare that could be if you had a disruptive member? But mainly communities need to know who their members are and if I have no way of searching for email or ID changes how can I know that? As a moderator/ owner this is a DISASTER.

3- RESTORE ABILITY TO EXPORT / DOWNLOAD ENTIRE MEMBER LIST: We need the ability to export more than 1000 members - those of us who want to leave will leave anyway... those of us who stay and want to support Yahoo! in this transition need this feature for to many reasons to list here and which you've already seen or heard via this forum. Any chance you can settle that when the NEO Dust settles? A lot of Yahoo! Groups are used by 501c3 organizations with little to budget and your tools enabled us to do good things in the world without having to dedicate even more time then we already do.

4- RESTORE ABILITY TO SCHEDULE FILES TO GO OUT "UPON PENDING MEMBERSHIP".

5- RESTORE BULK INVITE via copy/ paste

6- RESTORE BULK REMOVE via copy /paste

7 - PREMIUM OPTION? Perhaps consider a premium option where these features are enhanced and more control is given to moderators for groups that serve as an online community for official organizations with small budgets - Group spaces charges $99 x month for large organizations - Maybe Yahoo! can consider a similar option and add membership management features that are required by membership based organizations. You could make income on this given how many folks are now looking at migrating to paid sites.

8 - HOTMAIL REPLY ERROR: Reply error occurring with hotmail addresses? - From mobile devices, often, if the sender has a hotmail account the reply to that sender gets re-routed to us moderators. This error occurred last year too.

9- REMOVE SPONSORED CONTENT FROM MESSAGE LIST VIEW:
I just saw that you are now adding sponsored content to the message list view and i imagine users will have no choice as to whether to see it or not?
This is awful. Makes the groups look terrible. Can't you just keep the ads to the side and not interrupt our conversation? Can you imagine on support groups how inappropriate this feels?

10- RESTORE ABILITY FOR MODERATORS TO SEE EMAIL ADDRESS OF PERSON POSTING IN PENDING APPROVALS:
Ability to see email address of the person posting pending message not just ID - HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED despite your announcing that it had- when we moderate posts we ONLY see the member's ID and not email address.

11- HAVE MESSAGES AS DEFAULT VIEW IN CONVERSATIONS NOT TOPICS:
Ability to see messages as default when clicking "conversations" instead of "topics" - HAS NOT BEEN IMPLEMENTED despite your announcing that it had- SWITCH THE MENU AROUND SO IT READS : MESSAGES / TOPICS/ TRENDING and defaults to MESSAGES.

12- SIMPLIFY LOGIN / SIGN UP TO GROUPS PROCESS:
Simplify Login process with google or other emails: In the past weeks since NEO i have had to help 75% of my new members by phone because they found the sign up process SO confusing. I even have google employees sign up to our group and they could NOT figure out how to sign in with gmail via the "google" button. This is because you do not make it obvious that they MUST create a Yahoo! alias I believe, so with each and every person, i've had to walk them through that. Also, forget the people who don't have gmail or yahoo accounts... they are having a really difficult time figuring out how to link their email address ( @mac/ @verizon, etc) to their Yahoo! ID. It should NOT take more then 3 minutes to sign up to a site. Look at Facebook, linkedin,etc, Your process needs refining.

13- PHOTOS IN STREAM NOT LINKED TO POSTS:

Specifically: Is it me or are the pictures in the photo stream NOT linked in any easy way to the post they actually come from? I click on the title of the post that the photo comes from and I am not brought to the post itself. So in our case - we have a classifieds type board and photo stream would actually be a nice asset -BUT it's not of use because there is no way that i can see to click on the image and get to the original post it's attached to. Am I missing something?

14- MAKE "MORE OPTIONS" REPLY BUTTON MORE OBVIOUS:
We are getting feedback from our members, who are generally very computer savvy and many of whom work at top companies ( including Google / Apple / Top Ad agencies in our area/ major magazines and newspapers, major financial institutions, and city and state government, etc) that the reply options are not intuitive. It is not apparent to most of them without explanation that the little grey rectangular box leads to "more options" - Can you please make that more obvious?

15 - MESSAGES GO TO DIGEST & EMAILS WITH HTML CODE / MASSIVE LINE BREAKS AND BROKEN LINKS: make messages legible please - They are often interrupted with HTML tags or massive line breaks - or alternatively scrunched up in to what appears to be a run on sentence. Also, often links posted are broken in emails/ digest. Apostrophe's in subject create an "'" and we are seeing posts with : <span style= </span><div><span style=""><br></span></div><div><span style="" in them... illegible.

16- PRIVATE REPLIED TO DROPPED MEMBERS ARE SENT TO GROUP INSTEAD:
PLEASE PLEASE look in to the fact that private replies sent to folks who are no longer members do not perform as Yahoo states they should perform :ie: reach the sender.. but rather they go to the group.
NEO has a glitch whereby if you try to reply privately to an old post , if the original poster is no longer a member of the group, your reply goes to the WHOLE GROUP despite the fact that the reply window states:
"When you reply to sender, the message will not appear in the conversation but will be sent as an email to the sender."

This should read:

"When you reply to sender, the message will not appear in the conversation but will be sent as an email to the sender. Unless that sender is no longer a part of the group, in which case your private reply will be sent publicly to the entire group. Apologies for the ambiguity and inability to give you security regarding the privacy of your response. Oops. Smiley Face"

17 - FIX FILES SO THEY GO OUT PER SETTINGS:

In one of our large groups the files are not behaving per their scheduled settings and I am not alone to provide this feedback

We want to support Yahoo! through this transition. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE ISSUES WE ARE HAVING. THEY ARE REAL. We have lives, children, sick parents, and jobs to tend to.. we are not making this stuff up. It is causing tremendous aggravation and frustration to moderators and users alike. Surely this can't be your intentions. So please please listen to what is going on on the user end.

There is something that needs to be done to improve Groups

An enhancement can be done to Groups. If I share the idea it will be added by Yahoo and will not have any monetary benefit to me. Pay me $100000 atleast for the suggestion then I will advice.

Usability issues with Database feature in Yahoo Groups

Original Title : Man up and admit you got it wrong!!!!!

The Database is so full of problems, when will you be sorting it out - my members are unable to update the Database - our groups function using the Databases for our card and ATC exchange programmes.
I tried to put an address book in so they could then see the FULL address including Postcodes (most important in the UK) but on checking it the columns go all over the place - not as I want to see it - so muddly and impossible to read. A week ago using the Print option would show the whole Database in an easy to read format - now that has changed and the list has to be scrolled - I magine if you wish to print it it would be many hundreds of pages!!! The old Database was easy to read and edit - please reinstate the features that were available in that format - and alphabetised would be helpful!!! We are trying to get on with the new sites as we feel NEO is here to stay unfortunately but when things don't work it doesn't help us at all and no-one seems to want to help. I want to stay with Yahoo but all this is not encouraging.

We need the option to view a message with a fixed width font (not just plain text)

I have several groups that have large archives of files with "CHARTS" created to be viewed with fixed width (mono-spaced) font. example: go to SweetAdelinesScores - the very first message which can be viewed by non-members. Scroll down and you will see what was once a beautiful chart if viewed with fixed width font. Nice columns and everything. Now it is a jumble and not at all acceptable to my group members... and I'm sure my groups are not the only ones to depend on this feature.

I posted this before and it got up almost 120 votes and then disappeared. I got no notice that it was solved or closed or anything.
