Russia struggles to keep Olympic torch burning

The Olympic torch has been to the North Pole and traveled thousands of kilometers (miles) on the relay that will end at the Sochi Winter Games in Russia in February. The problem is, the flame keeps going out. The flame spluttered and died at least eight times in the first six days of the relay, the independent Dozhd television and Internet channel said.

A Kenyan Sweep

Defending champion Geoffrey Mutai and Priscah Jeptoo won the men’s and women’s races at the New York City Marathon on Sunday. Jeptoo overtook front-running Ethiopian Buzunesh Deba with about two miles to go to win going away in two hours, 25 minutes and seven seconds and claim her marathon victory, Mutai won by 52 seconds to claim his.
