Graduate Degrees

Begin your career in language today by selecting from one of our graduate or certificate programs:

  • MA in English as a Second Language
  • MA in Linguistics
  • MA in Professional and Technical Communication
  • Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • Certificate in Teaching Technical Writing

What is the admissions process?

Admission into any of LTC’s MA programs is a two-step process.

1.       Apply to the Toulouse Graduate School

  • Complete your online ApplyTexas application.
  • Request your official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended.
  • Submit your standardized test scores. All applicants must submit GRE scores. International applicants must also submit their TOEFL (or IELTS) scores.

All LTC applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of undergraduate semester credit hours prior to receiving a bachelor’s degree or a 2.8 GPA on all undergraduate work. Applicants accepted into our MA programs have presented GRE verbal scores ranging from the 50th to the 99th percentile and analytical writing scores ranging from 4.0 to 6.0. Scores on the computer-based TOEFL examination have ranged from 231 to 255.

NOTE:  We do not accept test scores other than the GRE and TOEFL (or IELTS) scores. The department does not grant conditional admission to applicants who have not submitted all test scores.

Additionally, students applying for either the MA in Linguistics or English as a Second Language must have a reading knowledge of at least one foreign language. As evidence of such foreign language, you may present the results of a standardized examination or have completed the sophomore year of a foreign language, or the equivalent, provided that the grade point average on all language courses is 2.75 or higher. You will not have permission to write a thesis or to enroll in LING 5920, LING 5930, or LING 5950 until the foreign language requirement has been met.

2.       Email the following documents to the LTC Graduate Advisor

  • A 300–500 word personal statement describing your interests, career plans, and purpose in working toward an MA.
  • A current vita or resume.

An admission decision will be made once the applicant’s file is complete. LTC accepts applications throughout the year; however, visit the Toulouse Graduate School Web site for their application deadlines.
