Texas Center for Health Disparities

Established in September of 2005, The Texas Center for Health Disparities (TCHD) is a NIH-designated center for excellence to prevent, reduce and eliminate health disparities in our communities through research, education and community relations. Want to know more about us?

Research at TCHD

The center focuses on research in areas such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, stroke and HIV. The first round of funded projects began at the beginning of March 2006. To learn more about the Health Disparity research at TCHD please visit the Research Core. 

Training by TCHD

STAR (Steps Toward Academic Research) Fellowship Program is an innovative program designed by TCHD as part of its training activities.  Ten STAR fellows will be selected to include five research faculty and five community fellows. Faculty Fellows are junior research faculty while Community Fellows will include community stake holders and leaders that are interested in learning more about research.  It offers a full year of collaborative training directed toward fostering Health Disparities Research Initiatives. Annual Conference

As part of the Center's Outreach activities, an annual conference on health disparities is organized every year.  The May 29-30, 2014, conference theme is "The Role of Genomics in Eliminating Health Disparities."
