    Patriots' Rob Gronkowski: Considered week-to-week
1h ago • By RotoWire Staff

Rob Gronkowski (knee) and the New England Patriots released a joint statement saying that the tight end will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, without any specific timetable for a return, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports.

The statement doesn't offer much of value, simply saying that Gronkowski's readiness to return will be evaluated in the days or hours leading up to each game. The Patriots likely don't want opponents to have a good idea as to when the tight end might actually return, though it's also quite possible that there just isn't a clear timetable. In any case, Gronkowski doesn't seem likely to play in Sunday's game against the Eagles, leaving Scott Chandler as the top option at tight end. Owners will still want to check back later in the week, as any sort of practice participation would be an excellent sign for the superstar tight end.

Colts' Phillip Dorsett: Could return to individual drills
2h ago • By RotoWire Staff

Phillip Dorsett (ankle) has an outside shot of returning to individual drills in practice this week, according to Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star.

Given that he's no lock for even individual drills, Dorsett doesn't seem especially likely to be ready for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. He does, however, seem to be making progress, which could put him on track for Week 14 against the Jaguars.

Browns QB Johnny Manziel could get another start Sunday
3h ago • By RotoWire Staff

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday that he isn't ready to decide between quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Austin Davis for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals , the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Manziel was recently dropped from first to third on the depth chart after a video showed him at a club in Austin, TX during Cleveland's bye week. Austin Davis filled in capably after Josh McCown suffered a season-ending broken collarbone in Monday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens , yet there's still some chance the Browns will want one more opportunity to evaluate Manziel. Either way, it's hard to imagine the Cleveland offense having much success against a tough Cincinnati Bearcats defense this Sunday.

Browns' Austin Davis: Could step in as starter
3h ago • By RotoWire Staff

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday that he isn't ready to decide between Austin Davis and Johnny Manziel for Sunday's game against the Bengals, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

With Josh McCown (broken collarbone) ruled out for the season, Davis may have a shot to build on his solid fourth-quarter performance from Monday's loss to the Ravens. On the other hand, the team may want one last chance to evaluate Johnny Manziel, who was recently dropped from first to third on the depth chart due to continued off-field concerns. Either way, Cleveland's quarterback will be among the least attractive fantasy options in the league. Manziel at least has some upside because of his running ability.

Browns QB Josh McCown out for remainder of season

Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh McCown (broken collarbone) will not play again this season, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

The news was confirmed by Browns head coach Mike Pettine, who chose not to disclose whether Austin Davis or Johnny Manziel will be the replacement. Davis filled in capably during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens , but he doesn't offer much in the way of long-term upside. On the other hand, Manziel has made major strides since last season, but his recent off-field controversy led Pettine to drop him from first to third on the depth chart.

Reds' Brandon Allen: Minor league deal with Reds
10m ago • By RotoWire Staff

Brandon Allen signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday that includes an invite to spring training.

While Allen has done some damage in parts of seven seasons at Triple-A, posting an .874 OPS and 109 homers, he's never played more than 52 games in any of his four major-league seasons. His last major-league appearance came in 2012, and he will likely serve merely as an organizational depth piece for the Reds if he sticks around beyond spring training.

Reds' Tim Melville: Inks minors deal with Reds

Tim Melville signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday that includes an invite to spring training.

His lone season in the Tigers' organization was largely forgettable, as Melville went 7-10 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 27 starts for Triple-A Toledo, though those numbers were a significant improvement on his from Double-A the year before. Still just 26, Melville may have an outside shot at a rotation spot on a young Reds staff, but his signing seems to be primarily for depth.

David Price agrees to seven-year deal with Red Sox

Lefty David Price has agreed to a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The Red Sox struggled to find an ace last season, so they went out and paid for one this offseason, inking one of the top two starting pitchers on the market to a hefty contract. Price, who went 18-5 with a 2.45 ERA and 225 strikeouts with the Tigers and Blue Jays last season, will remain in the AL East and is on track to start Opening Day.

Reds' J.C. Ramirez: Signs minor-league deal

JC Ramirez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cincinnati Reds which includes an invitation to spring training.

Ramirez appeared in 20 games between the Mariners and the Diamondbacks this season, recording a 5.32 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 23.2 innings. The 27-year-old did pitch well in Triple-A last season (2.72 ERA in 43 innings) so he could earn a spot with the Reds during spring training, but he's unlikely to pitch in enough high-leverage innings to become fantasy relevant.

Nationals' Brian Goodwin: Having big offseason in Venezuelan Winter League

Brian Goodwin is hitting an impressive .356/.444/.535 through 27 games for Bravos de Margaritas of the Venezuelan Winter League, MLB.com reports.

He's fallen off the prospect radar over the last couple of season and got passed up by Michael Taylor on the Nats' depth chart at center field, but at 25 years old there might still be time for Goodwin to revive his flagging fortunes. He'll need to bring the momentum he's building up in Venezuela forward into the spring to put himself back in the Nats' big league plans, however.

Ross and Tanner Roark would replace Jordan Zimmermann and Doug Fister in the rotation as things stand, although GM Mike Rizzo could still bring in another starter through trade or free agency, and a big spring from a prospect like Lucas Giolito could create a job battle. Ross had a successful major league debut last year, posting a 2.80 ERA and 47:4 K:BB ratio through his first seven big league starts (45 innings) before fading late.

Although Harris claimed he's feeling better, after suffering the concussion last Friday during the Denver Nuggets ' loss to the Spurs, he should be considered doubtful to be ready for Wednesday's contest. Wroten had previously suggested a Dec. 11 return date against the Pistons, which could turn out to be the case. His minutes will be limited from the get-go, however, as he continues to ease his way back from a torn ACL suffered last January. Wroten's status should be monitored throughout the week to determine his fantasy relevance upon his return.
