 Astronaut takes AMAZING self portrait in space

Astronaut Aki Hoshide of Japan took this incredible self portrait while working on the international space station. You can see the sun, earth, deep space and part of a gigantic robotic arm that is used on the space station itself.

I took self portraits in Iceland, Peru, Bolivia, Jordan, Nicaragua, Alaska and Cambodia this year while working as a photographer this year. Now I really have something to shoot for 2013 ;)

She spent three hours holding its head above the tide after it got stuck in the mud on a beach in Australia.
A horse gets stuck up to his neck in mud on a beach as the tide rises. His owner, Nicole Graham, who was enjoying an afternoon ride, stayed with him as rescuers struggled for three hours to pull him out. With moments to spare, the 500kg horse, named Astro, was freed with the help of a tractor and harness at Avalon Beach in Geelong, Victoria, Australia.Pics by Peter Ristevsk

What if Santa had a really bad year?

What if circumstances beyond his control had him unable to keep his elves gainfully employed?
And found him unable to care for his reindeer?
Or keep his house in the North Pole?
What if the worst possible set of circumstances came together in a perfect storm blizzard and set him back so much he had no choice but to turn to the streets and hopefully an ill-funded shelter? 
What if all the people he brought so much joy stopped acknowledging him?
Simply walked by without "seeing him". 
Without wondering whether he was hungry or cold or just needed to talk?

My shopping is all done for the people I care about. But today I am going to do a little more shopping for the people we all need to care about.

Study shows a hit of caffeine can boost your information-processing skills

That cup of coffee you have each morning could be doing more than giving you a wake-up jolt; it may actually improve your ability to process information. That's according to a study by two Tufts psychologists who found that caffeine seems to make people perform better in a proofreading test compared to those going without the java.
