Cleaner conversation view, improved multi-select and more for Gmail on Android

Starting today, Gmail for Android is getting a new, cleaner design for its conversation view. The update also includes a number of additional design tweaks such as checkmarks for multiple message selection so you can easily see what messages you are about to move, archive or delete.

As an added bonus the app will now tell you, right in your inbox, if account sync is off so that you won’t accidentally miss an important message again.

Yep, our upcoming release will be named Android KitKat!

KitKat has been a favorite candy on the team for some time, so for the K release, we asked if they’d be willing to lend their iconic candy bar to its name. Be on the lookout for limited edition Android KitKat bars coming soon to a candy aisle near you. For a lucky few, your KitKat bar might contain a winning ticket for a new Nexus 7 tablet or Google Play credits. Check it out

*Updates to #GoogleNow *

From traveling to entertainment, breaking news and sports scores, the latest card additions to Google Now give you even more information without ever having to ask. You can now find cards for car rentals, concert tickets, commute sharing, NCAA football and additional reminders; as well as improved public transit and updated TV cards.

Car rentals card: Get reservation details and directions to the rental center directly in Google Now, which together with the boarding pass and hotel reservation cards, makes Google Now your ultimate travel companion.

Concert ticket card: Going to a concert? Google Now will have your event ticket ready when you arrive at the venue; along with popular, locally relevant websites, such as the upcoming events page for the venue.

Improved public transit cards: If you regularly take public transit, Google Now will now inform you about the last train or bus to home so you never miss it.

Commute sharing card: When leaving work, you can now choose to inform your loved ones that you are on your way home. Learn more at http://goo.gl/bVUkLY

Set reminders while you search: When searching for music artists, movie actors, filmmakers and TV shows on Google, you’ll see a new “remind me” button on the panel by the search results. Click on it and a Google Now reminder will show up for new albums, movie releases or upcoming TV episodes.

Updated TV card: Google Now can tell you about the news mentioned and music playing in the TV show you’re watching, in addition to program information and people mentioned in show. Simply tap on the TV card if you have a smart TV or tap on the mic and say "listen to TV”.

NCAA football scores: Football season is about to start, and Google Now has you covered--you can now see real-time scores for your favorite NCAA team in Google Now.

These updates and more are available in the latest version of the Google Search app for Android 4.1+, rolling out today on Google Play: http://goo.gl/BPfyU

Just looked at review of note 10.1 2014, I really hope multi window and pop out video comes to stock android at some point in the future. I so want to get rid of my pc but need better multitasking before I can do that. Yes I can get it on the Note but then I get all Samsung's bloatware. Come on, give it to us...

Just back from a whirlwind trip to Asia visiting our Android ecosystem partners in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Exciting to see all the high quality Android devices available now, including Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, LG G2, Sony Xperia and many more. Also looking forward to the new devices our partners are launching in Berlin at IFA, played around with them last week and really nice  -- stay tuned; we’ve got a lot more coming!

All this Android innovation is driving tremendous ecosystem momentum and I’m excited to share that together we’ve now passed 1 Billion Android device activations. Huge thanks to the entire Android community from the hardware manufacturers, chip makers and carriers to the developers and content creators to all of you - our Android users around the world - for making this possible.

On my return from Asia, I was also thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn -- love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites:)
