Students get hands-on experience working in the field and learn about trends within the industry in this unique program, which focuses on teaching students about creating, developing, sourcing, manufacturing and merchandising products within home furnishings and decorative accessories. The Global Digital Retailing Research Center’s third and final lecture of the 2014-2015 Executive + Scholar Lecture Series is coming Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The Container Store's Co-founder, Chairman, and CEO, Kip Tindell will be sharing his knowledge and passion of "Conscious Capitalism.”. Following his lecture, Kip will be doing a book signing of his just released book, "Uncontainable”.
The book can be purchased at the UNT Bookstore or may be ordered through the containerstore.com at a discount. It is also available at a discount at Amazon.com and in the Amazon marketplace, as well as through other book retailers. Kip Tindell is a great story teller and his book is a great read. “Uncontainable” is a great Christmas gift. Don’t forget to bring a copy on February 4th to have it signed.... Please congratulate our student team - Kaitlin Fairless, Jessica Lovell, Ana Peterson, and Marcy Plefka - who have made it to round two of the NRF Student Challenge. Round two judging will be on November 21. This is a business-case competition for NRF Student Association members to highlight their creativity and business acumen to retail executives. By participating and competing against other Universities, they could earn: (1) A trip to New York City for Retail’s BIG Show, (2) Face-to-face interaction with some of retail’s biggest executives, (3) A scholarship up to $2,500.

New York Study Tour
Applications are now available for the New York Study Tour. Juniors and seniors majoring in MDR have the first opportunity to turn in application materials and a $300.00 deposit through Friday, November 7. Then, any MDR major can turn in their application materials and deposit from November 10 through January 23. Prerequisite: Completion of either MDSE 2490, HFMD 2400, or DRTL 2090 with a “C” or better and in good academic standing. The class meetings and ...trip are during the 2015 three week Maymester session. Two other deposits of approximately $1,400 total will be required, as well as payment of tuition and fees for the 3 hour credit study tour class. For more information and to receive an application, please contact Mrs. Dee Wilson at dee.wilson@unt.edu or Chilton Hall 342G. Spots for the class are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Jamie Nordstrom was named president of Nordstrom Stores this past May. He had been president of Nordstrom Director, wh...ich includes Nordstrom.com, Nordstromrack.com, mobile applications and catalog sales, since 2005. He led an executive team for Nordstrom Direct to grow the business to more than $1 billion dollars in annual online and catalog sales.
Jamie worked in the shoe department in Nordstrom’s stores through high school and college and held numerous positions with the company in stores and in buying management. Prior to being named president of Nordstrom Director, he led a team that successfully implemented a perpetual inventory system and helped establish the company’s multichannel foundation to better serve customers in the store and online. His presentation will be preceded by three faculty members from our College.
