WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST FOUNDATION
ESTABLISHES EDUCATION ENDOWMENT

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.—The William Randolph Hearst Foundation of New York, N.Y., has provided a grant of $200,000 to endow educational programs at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, a Virginia state agency that operates Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center history museums.

The endowment will support development of outreach and on-site educational programming initiatives.  The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation’s curriculum-based programs served more than 200,000 participants at the museums during 2005-06 academic year and more than 110,000 in outreach settings.

“We are pleased to invest in continuing the excellent education programs of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation,” said Robert M. Frehse, Jr., vice president and executive director of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.

Philanthropist William Randolph Hearst established the California Charities Foundation in 1948, and soon after Mr. Hearst’s death in 1951 that name was changed to the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  The Foundation is an independent private philanthropy operating separately from the Hearst Corporation.  The charitable goals of the Foundation reflect the philanthropic interests of William Randolph Hearst in education, health, social service and culture.

Building endowment funds is a component of the museum’s current “Campaign for Jamestown Settlement, 1607-2007.”  This grant helps bring total commitments to the $24.2-million campaign to $21.4 million.  For more information about the campaign, call (757) 253-4139 or visit
