Environmental Management System

The Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) is a voluntary program designed to encourage Virginia organizations to develop environmental management systems and pollution prevention plans. As part of its efforts to promote the use of environmental management systems (EMS) by all industry, business and public sectors, DEQ announced in June 2001 that it had developed an EMS of its own.  Although DEQ's EMS is modest as compared to those developed and implemented by industry, the agency's commitment to being a good environmental steward is reflected in its implementation.

The DEQ EMS is designed to conform to the requirements of ISO 14001.  DEQ is an E2 member of the VEEP network.
