The Newark VA Regional Office is one of fifty-seven offices located throughout the Nation that provide services and benefits to honorably discharged veterans of the U. S. Military and their dependents.

The Newark VA Regional Office services the 485,000 veterans residing in the State of New Jersey and their dependents. The Office processes claims for Compensation and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of veterans who reside in the counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset, Union, Middlesex, Mercer, Monmouth, and Ocean.  Claims for veterans who reside in the counties of Burlington, Camden, Atlantic, Gloucester, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem are under the jurisdiction of the Philadelphia Regional Office and Insurance Center.

During fiscal year 2008 the Office was responsible for payments in excess of $611,000,000 in Compensation and Pension benefits to over 50,000 beneficiaries in New Jersey. The Newark Regional Office participates in a variety of outreach programs throughout the year to include the yearly Homeless Veterans Stand Down, and Benefits Delivery at Discharge to Active Duty and  reservists returning from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Recently, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki established  service-connection for Vietnam Veterans with three specific illnesses based on the latest evidence of an association with the herbicides referred to Agent Orange.  The illnesses affected by the recent decision are B cell leukemia's, such as hairy cell leukemia; Parkinson’s disease; and ischemic heart disease.

The Regional Office is reaching out to veterans to file claims for injury or illness incurred while in service, or to file claims for increase if the injury or illness has worsened over time.  Veterans Service Representatives are available at 1-800 827-1000 to assist veterans in filing their claims.   Additionally, the following service organizations are also available at the Regional Office to represent and assist veterans:
