FORT WORTH, Texas —Health professionals from across Texas will gather here March 8-9, 2002, to learn about “Bioterrorism in the New Millenium.”

The two-day conference will be held at Stockyards Station, 130 E. Exchange Ave., in the Stockyards National Historic District. It offers continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and emergency medical technicians.

Featured speakers include U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger; former U.S. Army Surgeon General Ronald Blanck, D.O., now president of the University of North Texas Health Science Center; and Dianne Simpson, M.D., Ph.D., of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other faculty includes Eduardo Sanchez, M.D., M.P.H., Texas health commissioner; Robert Haley, M.D., from UT Southwestern Medical Center; Alex Hathaway, M.D., M.P.H., Tarrant County public health authority and several regional medical and environmental experts.

During the conference, participants will discuss the history of bioterrorism and biological agents; learn about local, state and national effort to minimize casualties should an incident occur; and develop a “tool chest” for use in the event of a biological attack.

The conference is sponsored by the Tarrant County Medical Society, the UNT Health Science Center, Tarrant County Public Health Department, JPS Health Network, and the City of Fort Worth.
