FORT WORTH - Texas – The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth’s newly created School of Public Health has been ranked in the top 20 national master’s degree programs in community health by U.S. News and World Report. The magazine is publishing their rankings of graduate community health and preventive medicine programs in their April 10 issue.

These rankings of the health professions programs are based on the results of surveys sent to deans, faculty and administrators of accredited graduate programs. The UNT Health Science Center tied for 19 with Temple University and Arizona State University.

“I am pleased that we made the top 20 so soon in our brief history,” says Fernando Treviño, Ph.D., dean of the School of Public Health at the Fort Worth academic medical center. “As our new School of Public Health moves forward, the faculty and I pledge to work hard to help us achieve even higher levels of recognition.”

The UNT Health Science Center’s School of Public Health was approved by the Texas Legislature in June of 1999. Plans for the school include offering a doctorate of public health and doctor of philosophy in epidemiology in addition to the master’s program.
