UNT HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER DEDICATES ALUMNI PLAZA
University of North Texas Health Science Center President Ron Blanck, D.O., will host a dedication and ribbon cutting for the school’s new alumni plaza on Friday, September 17. The event will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. “The plaza, located in the heart of our campus, is a tribute to the more than 3,000 students who have crossed our threshold in our 34-year history,” said Dr. Blanck. “They are the finest osteopathic physicians, biomedical science researchers, public health professionals and physician assistants in the world, and we recognize their legacy as an inspiration to current and future students.”
The UNT Health Science Center began in 1970 as the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. Its first class of 20 students met in a renovated bowling alley in the museum district of Fort Worth. From those humble beginnings to the unveiling of a new $42 million Center for BioHealth in August 2004, the Health Science Center has evolved into a multidisciplinary academic institution for health science education.
Today, more than 1,000 students learn in state-of-the art classrooms and laboratories in one of three colleges—the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences or the School of Public Health. They can earn graduate degrees in osteopathic medicine, physician assistant studies, biomedical sciences and public health.
The Alumni Plaza Dedication will immediately follow the Health Science Center’s White Coat/Convocation ceremony at Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium.
